bleak days turned into a beacon of hope after an accident in 2004 led to his brother's tragic loss. drew incentive and inspiration from the Sonoma wine country once he started as an intern at a local winery. It was there he encountered a mentor who recognized his turmoil and introduced him to a vineyard with great potential. Nurtured by the vines and the beauty of the land, Brian found a renewed sense of purpose, and thus, Angel Camp Vineyard was born.
Beyond Brian, the winery's team includes his wife, Cindy Storman, who also contributes significantly to the family business; the talented酿酒师顾问Philip Baxter; dedicated助理酿酒师 Alex Crangle; and vineyard manager Paul Ardzrooni. Together, they have crafted a vibrant 5-member team, each bringing their expertise to create wines of unparalleled quality.
Perched between the Nawarro River and Highway 128, Angel Camp's 12-acre vineyard boasts a panoramic view and an idyllic location. Helmed by the cool Pacific breeze and altitude of 300 feet, the vineyard is nestled like a gem in a surrounding landscape. The cooling morning fog, effective in moderating the heat of the sun, contributes to the grape's spectral balance and natural sugar ripeness. Cultivated on gentle terraced soils packed with gravel and schist, the vines delve deep into the earth to extract essential nutrients. Embracing an agrarian philosophy of 'let's get back to nature,' and adhering to the minimalist brewing principle of 'less is more,' the winery crafts wines that vividly exhibit the delicate and elegant style of Pinot Noir.
Harvesting begins in late September, with meticulous hand-picking followed by destemming before the grapes are gently placed into open-top fermenters. Cold soak treatments for five days encourage the wine’s natural yeast to activate, while daily pump-overs over the next 17 days extract maximum flavor. The wine is then carefully pressed and aged in casks, followed by an apple-pear fermentation in the spring. After fining, the wine returns to the cask for further conditioning. The winery tastefully uses new French oak for some batches while others mature in aged oak to preserve floral and fruity aromas. Free from filtering and fining, the winery takes pride in its unwavering commitment to pure winemaking and direct bottling.
Angel Camp Vineyard showcases a selection of exquisite wines, including Les Amoureuses Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley Estate Pinot Noir, Avenging Angel, and Estate Grown Pinot Noir. The Estate Grown Pinot Noir, in particular, has garnered high praise from wine enthusiasts, with the 2013 vintage reaching a rating of 88 points by Connoisseurs’ Guide and an impressive 92 points by Wine Observer in 2014.
